Snorkel - TJM

The Volkswagen Amarok V6 TJM AirTec Snorkel is state of the art Australian off-road technology and naturally belongs to every Amarok off-road conversion. As a TJM representative, we bring the outback technology onto European roads with the help of the TÜV certificate we have issued.

 

The shifted air intake of the off-road snorkel allows the Amarok to pass through water, which could otherwise be a risky manoeuvre. However, water crossings do not only mean cinematic river crossings, but also shallower mudflats, which can also be found on flooded roads. While a small amount of water in the form of droplets is no problem for the engine, the situation is quite different with greater amounts of water. Due to the typical bow wave in front of the vehicle and heavy splashing water, a large amount of water can penetrate even at low watt depths for a short time and lead to a hydrostatic shock.

 

Internal combustion engines typically compress the fuel-air mixture by the movement of the piston. The compression ratio of a modern turbocharged diesel engine is approximately between 14 and 18 to 1. This compression is not achievable with penetrated water. The piston therefore literally runs against a "water" wall. This abruptly produces enormous forces, which are typically associated with piston, piston rod or connecting rod damage. But the Amarok snorkel also shows its advantages on dusty roads because of its higher air intake point.

 

The snorkel housing allows an unobstructed air flow and ensures a constant supply of air to the engine.

There are two different designs to choose from, perfectly fitted for the Amarok. Available is the typical Ram-Air system, which we also call the standard air intake. In addition, TJM has developed the so-called Wedgetail design for the VW Amarok, providing improved aerodynamics.
